She treats a diverse range of clients, but takes a special interest in working with people who have lost family members to suicide, people in crisis, and working as part of a treatment team for people with bipolar disorder. LINDA SELIGMAN was a professor emeritus of counseling and development at George Mason University, and was named Counselor Educator of the Year and Researcher of the Year by the American Mental Health Association. Seligman authored 15 books throughout her career as a researcher, educator, psychologist, and counselor. She died in 2007.

Amazing book for any clinician. There is a chapter on treatment planning using the DO A CLIENT MAP acronym. It also includes all information one could need regarding mental disorders and treatments that have been researched. It ends with suicide evaluation. I would highly recommend.
Excellent resource. I wish it had been required in my master's program. I'm currently using it to prepare for the licensure exam. I'm having many aha moments as I read. The content is delivered and explained as if one is participating in a great conversation. I plan to keep this book and the DSM-V within arms reach...always.
I used this to prep for the NCMHCE, and found it very helpful. As a clinician I used interventions I'm most skilled at, and so refreshing my memory from Grad school was rather overwhelming. I loved the way this broke down treatment, and it was helpful in building an understanding of why the interventions were effective - instead of just memorizing.
I purchased this book for my MSW graduate course and it was very beneficial. It thoroughly explains diagnoses and provides a case study to aid in properly identifying and implementing effective treatments. Overall, it was a good purchase and something I will keep and continue to use professionally as a LCSW.
As a mental health clinician, this book bless me so much to better serve my clients. I have all editions of the books. Thanks for an update for DSM 5.
I had used an earlier edition, but waited for this on as it cites DSM 5. I like it.
I had to use this book in an Etiology class in a MAPC Master's program. I thought the information was very limited, and rather out of date. I found better resources using a search engine and the Web.
