Joseph is a professional Linux Systems Administrator currently working at Hewlett-Packard, with a focus on managing the infrastructure for the OpenStack project. Elizabeth began contributing to Ubuntu in 2006 and currently contributes to various teams, including Documentation, News, Quality Assurance, and Classroom. Over the years she has served on the Ubuntu Membership Board and is now serving her third term as a member of the Ubuntu Community Council. I have been using Ubuntu for some time and was looking to go more in depth with this distrubtion of Linux.The book is a beginners guide to Linux and Ubuntu. It will be easily accessible to someone who has have never used Linux before. I think somewhere in the title it should have mentioned the book is for novices as I was expecting a more advanced user guide. Despite this, this book still contains a lot of valuable information and I found it to be a nice read.The first chapter had an excellent introduction to the story of Ubuntu and the goals of the project. Chapter two covered installation as the book comes with a DVD.Later on common software was introduced. It was helpful to see what the recommended programs to use were but on some of these there was too many basic details. For example, there are two image editors introduced and a lot of screen shots showing the basic functionality of image editors.Chapter seven got into the command line and the explanations here were very good. The book covers common commands that desktop users will need.Towards the end of the book Ubuntu Server was introduced. The explanations here were more advanced assuming you have knowledge of system administration. The last part of the book offers ways to get involved in the Ubuntu project along with many links for further information.I appreciated the authors' enthusiasm for the operating system and their writing style was fluid. It would be nice if every OS had an introduction like this. I think the book title needs to state that it is for beginners, as I was expecting a comprehensive manual about Ubuntu.

This is a great for learning how to use, install, update and manage the Ubuntu Linux Operating System. This text includes a complete operating system of Ubuntu (flavored or version) of Linux. This book will show you how to get started to quickly install, run and configure you operating system. It's a very easy to understand and is tremendously valuable for installing and administering a nicely secure Linux server. There's a ton of useful and valuable information complete with instructions and samples to guide you through with the use of Linux.One of the many aspects of the text I like the most is the explanation and instruction about how to use the command line. I have found that there are tips and help for troubleshooting when you need it. There are a ton of other features and help that's within the text that is completely understandable and easily digestible information and instructions.I am, currently, using the Ubuntu Studio version that includes everything I need to edit photos, video, and audio.Honestly, the authors are brilliant and this book is the best Linux book for learning and understanding the operating system I have ever purchased. I would highly recommend this if you about to embark on installing and using Ubuntu Linux. Of all the versions or "flavors" of Linux I have used, Ubuntu is my most favorite of them all. It's a book you purchase and keep permanently for the reference material alone and because it was so well written and how the subject matter is presented.This is the only book you will need to get started with Ubuntu Linux. It even includes the DVD installation disk, too.

Disk was defective, didn't realize it until today, the 30 days to return it were up the day before I checked.Update: the printer contacted me to offer me a replacement disk, and even though it won't help me now, the proactive approach impressed me with their service focus.Second update: After a bit of conversation over email with the printer, I am so impressed with the customer service and the resolution to fixing my experience with the book that I will go out of my way to buy books by prentice pearson in the future when I need IT publications. No manufacturer or printer is perfect, every one will have an occasional QA mess up slip through, but their willingness to go above and beyond to proactively provide warranty service quickly and in such a friendly way was very impressive. I have received that level of service sometimes but not all the time, and CS and good tech support are my highest priorities. I would give them five stars but lately most of the five star reviews I read are clearly not completely reputable. Four stars, for me, is a six star rating for others.

Need Ubuntu? This is the best way to get it. It has a DVD with the operating system on it and the book is so well written that an amateur can understand what is going on and what to do. No more guessing which ISO or TAR or whatever is the right file to download. Well worth the small price. I use it in a community college classroom.

I am a student of Linux. This book is an excellent source for learning this operating system.

Dictionary of Banking Terms does not have a search function that takes you to the entry you need. For example, I searched on "Trust". My results were not the just the dictionary entry for Trust. I got a list of every occurrence of the word "Trust" in the entire work. This is hardly a desirable feature for an e-dictionary. You want individual entries, not a huge list of occurrences. I know that Barron's knows how to create an e reference book. They did it right with Dictionary of Finance for Kindle; you can look up the ONE word you want. Barron's, however, failed big time with the Kindle version of Dictionary of Banking Terms.

Very helpful and beneficial helping you understand terms that you don't know. It's well worth the price. I bought it for my home because I deal with my credit unionOn a regular basis.

I am writing this review having just finished the book. I'm in total awe of this author and the seemingly ease it took to write this beautiful, romantic, heart wrenching, adventuresome, exciting story.She takes us through Scotland, then traveling to many cities and points of interest throughout India in post-WWI era. The geographics and descriptions of the places is so well written I could almost smell the mist of the Himalayas and suffocating air as the party climbs it's treacherous peaks. The sounds, sights and smells of the various cities throughout India are ever present as this tale of secrets and unrequited love and romance are weaved into a stunning, brilliant story. We get a taste of the political aspect of if the times in post-war Edinburgh and British controlled India.I was angered and disheartened by the prejudice and social policies maintained through total ignorance and racism of the times as well as the mysogonistic flavor that permeated society. Women treated as second class citizens accepting the strictures of unfair conditions of life with regard to every aspect of their beings, even birthing babies and the rearing of their children. Shocking, but real.We follow a fragile Sophie as she struggles to find out the truth of her ultimate orphaning after the mysterious deaths in India of both parents on her sixth birthday and eventual rearing by a loving Aunt Amy in Scotland, only to return to her beloved India as a young, anxious bride-to-be.This is a definite recommendation to readers of historical fiction, historical romance fiction and women's historical fiction. It brought out so many emotions in me, and I cannot wait to read the next book in the Tea Planter series by this fine author, Janet Macleod Trotter. Absolute "thumbs up."

Too many characters, very little to admire in the main characters. The first book in the series had beauty but lacked romance. This one is utterly forgettable.

I loved this story. First of all it is a great story about life and love and family. Secondly it takes place in such an interesting time when everything is on the brink of huge social change. The women of this time played such an important role in the changes to come both for themselves and for the lower classes.

This was a riveting story that you didn't want to put down. there was always an air of mystery about what would happen next .A delightful account of two young brides and their experiences in India. Thoroughly recommended.

I enjoyed reading this book. I learned a lot about the culture of the tea planters and the reasons why there was such an effort for India to be free of British control. I did, however, not think it was as good a book as A Tea Planter's Daughter by the same author. ..

Janet MacLeod Trotter has done it again. By continuing the story in book two of the India Tea series, she has given the reader the opportunity to see what happened after the conclusion of book one. By the conclusion of this story, the reader is begging for more! Highly recommend this author!

This is book two of the trilogy I have read and thoroughly enjoyed all thee booksThe books are written and based in the time when the British were in control in India and span many years including the period of world war 2

I loved the whole series, recently finished #3. Characters are so real, descriptive passages about the terrain, foods served, are so complete. It carried me away to a time & place I'd never even hoped to visit. Had me in tears several times. This author is very talented!

The Tea Planter Bride is the second in the series. It is a continuation so it does not truly stand alone. I enjoyed the atmosphere of India . There is unresolved mystery and Victorian romance.
