I’m sure the book is great but I can’t recommend the shipper. Right out the package the book was covered with black sticky stuff. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this book from classmates so I was excited to read it. Now I have to return it and wait for snotheron. Very disappointed that a new book came like this.

I have been developing with Clojure for a few years now. Most of the books I have read are focused on learning the language. This one is not an introduction to Clojure, but I still learned about the language when reading it and doing projects with what I have learned. It is more of an applied book. It gives you enough to get your feet wet and be productive, but it also gives you a lot of future areas of research and learning about the language and how it can be used effectively.What I really like is that Clojure and the tools and frameworks are so expressive that I can get useful projects completed in very few lines of code. Small enough that you can get your head around whole pieces of functionality. Something that might take several classes, and several pages of code in Java can be completed in Clojure in one to two pages of code.

I've been coding in OO languages knew nothing of Clojure or functional programming but heard great things about its concurrency, conciseness of lisp, easy access to the java library ecosystem.There are a number of books on Clojure but none that focus specifically on how to build a website - i.e. setting up a http server, database connections, db queries, taking form, url or session params to get data from the db, etc. So this book was very helpful in quickly getting me building a guestbook with all these essential requirements for a website app.What I found as I went through the book's example apps was how flexible and easy it is to switch libraries and that the Clojure library system is quite extensive. In the rare case one doesn't exist for your needs, you simply include a java lib.You include libraries in your project.clj file and then in the root of your app in the terminal command line simply type 'lein ring server' and before firing up the web server lein automatically fetches and installs them in your app. Lein is akin to rake in Ruby on Rails and just as concise and user friendly.The book walks you through building the example applications with the views in the Hiccup template language. In later chapters, the author shows you a walk through of how to do the same application with the Selmer template system which he created based on the django template design.The author is quite prolific in his support of the Clojure community having contributed some key libraries, developed the Luminus web framework in Clojure and as one of the maintainers of lib-noir, one of the key Clojure libraries useful for building websites. I tried Luminus which is a Clojure web project template with a curated set of useful libraries.With one command line in your terminal with lein Luminus generate a project template with either mysql or postgres, authentication and clojurescript if you desire it. Then you just enter your username and password for the database in the db config file to get up and running.If I got stuck on anything, I was able to go to click on a link related to the example in the digital book which takes you to the publishers website to view the source code of the example. With the book you get access to a zip file that has source code versions for all the examples utilizing different libraries so you can see how they actually work.There are even examples writing direct sql vs an orm. That helps you experiment and save time debugging as you're going along.The book assumes you know nothing about Clojure and gets you seeing results right away. So I would highly recommend it to anyone using another language interested in exploring Clojure for skill expansion or greater performance and productivity.Pardeep.

The book is great and has a lot of useful information. Dmitry, also known as "yogthos" online, is very active in Clojure community and very helpful.I would rate the book 5 stars but I can't. The author did a great job, no doubt about it, but Clojure web development is a bit hectic at the moment. I had to take a star off because I wish the book covered more technologies. There is just too much going on in Clojure, there is no single accepted way to develop web apps. Ruby, for example, has Rails and this is pretty much a defacto stack for the language. Clojure on the other hand has many different libraries and "no one true" web framework (Arachne is upcoming and we don't know much about it yet).Dmitry focuses on Reagent for the front end, and he makes some safe choices for a back end (Postgres). But if we look around available web tools for Clojure then we'll see many many different technologies. Ask anybody who is using Clojure in production and chances are they all will have different tools. There is OM, Reagent, Rum, Hoplon, etc. Many templating languages. Various databases, including unique Datomic. And there are many ways to build an app in Clojure/ClojureScript.So this is what I am getting at. Dmitry shows you how to build an app one way, his way, based on Luminus (the tool he wrote). But I am not saying that it's wrong in anyway, I just wish the book covered more technologies, that way a reader could choose what he likes best. And there are a lot of good and interesting stacks right now. Of course author couldn't explain everything in detail, it's not his fault, web development in Clojure has no unity and there is a lot going on. But here's the thing, if we had a book that covers most popular web stacks then it would be a 5 star. Perhaps in a 3rd edition Dmitry can build up on what he has and he can introduce more material.Nonetheless, this book is probably the best one on the market right now that covers web development with Clojure from start to finish. It is similar to Hartl's tutorial about Ruby on Rails.

Great book for those interested in diving into Web Development with Clojure and Clojurescript. The book has plenty of examples and good explanations. It also goes through more specifics of the Luminous Web framework. I hesitate to Luminous a framework since it is more or a template to jump start your application with building blocks for different databases or front ends.Overall this book was the best Web Development book for Clojure I have read!

I already have basic experience with Clojure and this book is a good next step for me: writing useful applications in a murky world of modern Web development. I especially like the writing style and selection of topics.

Firstly, I would like to preface with the fact that I am NOT following a keto diet, so I don't have as much knowledge as hardcore keto-ers who have been dedicated to the lifestyle for a while. However, I think I've done enough research to write this review with some confidence.I'm giving the book 3 stars because, overall, the recipes look healthy and delicious (I have yet to make anything since I only received the book today, but it looks promising). Each smoothie has nutrition facts including calories, carbs, protein, fat, sugar, sodium, and fiber, which I'm sure a lot of people will find handy.I only give it 3 stars though, because:1. The introduction is poorly written/edited with a lot of grammatical errors. I know this is a recipe book, not an English language textbook, so I can sort of overlook that part. But it still comes across as unprofessional.More than that, there's a section in the introduction that just seems snide and unnecessary. Quote: '. . . you need to be diligent in picking the foods you eat . . . to lose all those belly fat, love handles, muffin top, arm flabs and all those nook and crannies . . .' I'm sure that the author wasn't scheming to offend people by calling them out on their 'muffin tops' and 'arm flabs,' but again, it just seems unprofessional.2. Onto the recipes themselves. While they do look tasty, some of the recipes don't look very keto-friendly. For anyone confused, I'll TRY to keep my explanation short: Keto is a low-carb diet carefully balancing macronutrients in order to achieve and maintain a fat-burning state known as ketosis, usually around 70% fats, 25% protein, and 5% carbohydrates (though that can vary among individuals). My understanding is that the baseline for following keto is to have 20g of carbs per day. Some people claim to eat more than that based on bio-individuality, but there are many keto evangelists who religiously maintain that 20g of carbs is THE maximum number. Even the book acknowledges this in the introduction, stating, 'Essentially, your daily consumption of carbs is restricted to 30 - 50 Net grams per day, but others would advise you not to exceed 20g of carbs . . .'That said, there are indeed some foods that should be eliminated from a keto diet. Enter dairy. Although dairy can fit into your meals in the form of butter, low carb cheeses, heavy cream, etc., I'm pretty darn sure that milk and yoghurt are off-limits. However, there are two entire sections in this book featuring 'Yogurt-Based' and 'Milk-Based Keto-Approved' smoothies. According to the nutrition facts listed, at least four of these smoothies exceed the 20g-carb limit, each with 26.2g, 22.3g, and 23.4g, and 22.7g respectively. Now, the first three have a high fiber content, so potentially I guess this brings the net carbs down (anyone who has looked a bit more into keto will understand the whole fiber and net carbs thing). The fourth however, at 22.7g of carbohydrates, has only 2.1g of fiber to offset it. So if you're a strict keto-er who tries to stay under 20g a day, you've just maxed out.To be fair, I guess for those people who do well with 50g a day of carbs, I can see that the milk and yoghurt recipes would work. For people new to keto though, this is potentially misleading.But, as mentioned, the recipes do look tasty, and they can easily be adapted by switching out regular yoghurt and milk for low-carb alternatives (like coconut yoghurt, macadamia milk, etc.).3. This may seem like a silly point, but I have to say that, when the author lists keto-approved dairy products to incorporate into one's diet and includes mayonnaise, I feel a little bewildered and amused at the same time. Last I checked, mayonnaise was a condiment made with oil and eggs. It's not dairy. Again, that might seem silly to nitpick at, but taking everything else into account too, I'm a little inclined to question the author's credibility. Might just be me.All in all, the smoothies and shakes look good, and they still have a lot to offer. If you have any experience at all with adapting recipes, you'll get a lot of use out of this book.

Great book with lots of inspiration! The recipes are very detailed, easy to follow and helpful. I have tried some recipes of this book and all smoothies were delicious and healthy. I found this book easy to understand and it was well written and explained everything. I would also recommend this book to anyone trying to live a healthier lifestyle.

It has a lot of grammatical errors...........it is like a person with a 3rd grade education wrote it. No offense, it is bothersome that a grown adult didn't look through it to see if there are problems.

I like the recipes but I wouldn’t consider them Keto friendly. The majority of them are very high with total carbs for ONE smoothie/shake!

The author provides an account of her initiation into the teaching profession by spending a year in a ghetto school that is completely understaffed and out of control. We learn of her struggles to understand the children and to master the art of making the classroom work, her discovery of the actual conditions under which her students live, and her sincere effort to make things better in their lives. As a product of NYC schools in lower-class, but not ghetto, neighborhoods, I was nevertheless shocked to learn of the lawlessness that prevailed and the hopelessness of the situation. Of course, I lived in a very different generation, with different values, and much better control of students. And I knew only my high school, integrated with kids from different neighborhoods, many of them quite poor (as my family was), but segregated by academic achievement into classes that were almost 100% white, and this provided a skewed perspective.

I gave Ms. Asquith's book a rating of five. It is a fair representation of life in neglected underfunded unsupported school divisions. Society's greatest gifts are its children and when we fail them we fail as a generation. As a retired educator I have seen a whole generation of parents ,politicians, and tax payers completely abdicate their responsibilities. Not one group can fix the diverse problems and complexities of educating today's youth. We all have to work together to fix our issues. One way is to respect and support(economically,emotionally,and professionally) people who are willing to go into this very demanding profession. Teachers who retain their passion and dedication are trained well,supported well,and paid well . When this happens everyone wins. Bandaid solutions, outrageous paperwork,not enough dollars spent in the right areas , and politicians who have never spent any time in a classroom dictating policy don't work as illustrated in this book.

In this book, a young journalists decides she wants to "make a difference in a child's life" - according to the teacher recruiting advertisements. She quits her job as a journalist and chooses to teach 6th grade in the lowest-performing school in Philadelphia - without any experience or training - or curriculum. She chronicles her year - the wins and the losses. As a middle school ESOL teacher, I found myself relating to her frustrations as well as the moments when the stars line up and you feel you've really touched a student. This book helps illustrate what is broken in many school systems, and how difficult the problems are to solve.

I was a new educator in the inner city recently. My school wasn’t as rough as the school depicted in this story, but some parts of this book rang very true to me. I felt I could relate to the book, and I wish I had read it in college.This book can be heart breaking for anyone passionate about education (teachers, parents, and community members). However, it also helps you understand the system some kids are functioning within, and it helps you have empathy towards those kids. Great read!

I was a teacher in an area similar to the one in this book. Nobody could have tried harder than Christina to make a difference for these kids but there were so many obstacles in her path. I would hope that exposing some of the problems in public education would get the message to the people who could help solve them. Getting and keeping qualified teachers is a must! They need the support of the administrators and the school district, with materials and services for their students. There needs to be help for the misbehaving students who can singlehandedly disrupt a whole class.

Emergency teachers being brought in because those with an educational degree are fleeing the system. Ms Asquith did the best she could under extremely hard circumstances. She showed love to her students, which is very important, but without supplies and training, she and other emergency teachers and underfunded teachers and schools are set up for failure. Eye opening book!

It is fair to note that had Christina Asquith taught in a more affluent part of Philadelphia or a middle class suburban community, she probably couldn't write a book about her one-year experience as a teacher. Before being trained as such (even trained teachers have to struggle in the beginning by learning on the job) she should not have accepted a teaching job from a district which would simply throw her to the wolves, as such. As she pointed out, a few teachers in this abysmal school were dynamic and great managers of their classes. And it seems true (was for me, at least) that it takes about three years to build ones teaching techniques--and maybe five years to really feel confident. But Asquith had an unfortunate placement in a tragically-run school.Nevertheless, Asquith's portrayal of the (reputed) worst school in Philadelphia (and too many others come close) is heart-rending and shocking, and the revelation an embarrassment to the district--let's hope.The author had it many times harder than I. How she held on for a full school year is a testament to her character in the face of the school district's incompetence. The book is more revelatory than inspirational, and though a fast and sometimes engrossing read it is rather depressing. I think a prospective teacher--who isn't desperate--would tend to not teach in a big-city public school after reading this account.I retired a few months before Asquith started her experiment in teaching, and my school (after at least 30 years of relative calm) was just starting to become infected by students creating bedlam in their classrooms and hallways. I had good control, was creative and motivational, but even my tolerence with the system forced me and other veterans in the school to take the early retirement incentive being offered by the state (so the district could hire two new teachers for the price of one veteran with higher degrees). We could see what was coming.Now, the reader will understand why 50 percent of new hires leave teaching within 3-5 years--the shorter time representing big-city public schools. Teaching can be very rewarding, but also one of the toughest jobs there is, and the emotional stress is equal to that of a police person "on the beat"--I've read.The following partial paragraph from page 98, gives a sense of the entire book:"I'd set out wholly single-mindedly to learn to teach, and suddenly my failure became a real possibility. I'd personally staked everything on suceeding, I'd given up my career, my Inguirer [Newspaper] friends... If I was failing and wasn't making a shred of difference, what was the point? There aren't a lot of good Science Fiction being released nowadays. Most online novels fall into genres related to it, like VR, but not core SciFi. There was plenty of good SciFi several decades ago but something of this quality is hard to find in the current day. Even comparing this to the best of the past that are similar to it, like Ender's Game, this stands up to it and surpasses it in many ways.For an online webnovel, the book maintains a strong grasp of grammar and spelling, something that many webnovels are lax on.A couple things for those who may be wary. The author has stated that the series is intended to be very long. There are currently four books written of similar length with no end in sight. Due to the nature of how it was written, there are a couple of continuity errors that haven't been fixed in this first book, that conflict with later books. The first several chapters sort of suck. They act as an introduction to the protagonist and the world, but were written before the author really got on his feet, so are below the quality of the rest of the novel and series as a whole.Even for those faults above, I consider this one of the best available books in the space.

If you're into mechs, slice of life fiction, and academy/school stories, this is a great first installment of a new series with apparently many more planned.This had interesting characters, some of which were AI, and a lot of base- and world-building elements that kept me engaged.

This is the first book in the story of Daedo. A boy genius in a military sci-fi mech school. It’s a thrilling fast-paced telling of technical innovation, intrigue and teamwork. Warmly recommended.

Academy arc following a genius child and his team. Reminds me of Enders Shadow somewhat but obviously not a derivative.Enjoyed it enough that I’m reading the next chapters on Patreon for early access before the sequel is out.

Whats not to love the book includes, Exo-suits, Giant Mechs, Aliens, Science, AI's, Meatbags. So what are you waiting for buy the book!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The plot and character development was well thought out and progress well. Can’t wait for the next one.

Would definitely recommend this novel to fans of military scifi novels such as Enders Game, The Lost Fleet series, Starship Troopers, Armor, Galatic Liberation series, and All you need is kill. Ultimately this military scifi novel is worth your time.

The grammer is not as bad as they claim in other reviews. You loose no concepts or ideas from it, do not allow those comments to prohibit you from buying this book.It is my opinion, from a content and concept perspective, this is one of the better written books. Having ready many "X's & O's" and "concept" football books, this book provides a great balance of both perspectives. You will get the X's and O's needed to install the offense, plenty of easy to understand diagrams, and short narrative that is to the point on deploying the concepts. This is the first book I have chosen to read on the RPO. Most of the research I have done, it appeared to me the RPO concept was really no different than any basic high school spread offense concept. This book will provide you the understanding to differentiate this offense from most spread offense concepts your have read to date. It provides simply play calls and reads for young quarterbacks and receivers. This book will not leave you guessing. Just understand that you are not going to get Air Raid or heavy spread offensive medium to long range concepts or a West Coast short passing scheme. This style is a very controlled, multiple option type offense designed to control the game and manage the clock. These concepts are not going to provide concepts to employ if you are down two touchdowns at the beginning of the 4th quarter.

The RPOs laid out here add a great dimension to the run game that just makes sense. The scheme is also quite simple to explain to the kids and makes the receivers a bigger part of the run game. My only complaint about the book is the fact that there are some serious editing problems. Sentences are cutoff in many places. I wonder if it's just the Kindle edition. I don't feel like I missed out on anything important, but it is annoying. It was still worth my time to read it. The price may be a bit too high for the content though.

Content is 5 stars. Coach Vint is incredibly knowledgeable. I dropped it down to 4 stars due to the crazy amount of typos. I'm no English teacher, but it was a lot in my opinion.

I really LOVE this book! It's straightforward, inspiring, biblical, and relevant. If you only read one christian book this year, this is a good place to start. There is no natural explanation for the fulfillment of the the many messianic prophecies in the Old Testament. This book does a great job of explaining some of these prophecies that fit Jesus perfectly. My prayer for brothers and sisters all over the world is that Jesus the Messiah draws them to himself (John 6:44).

If you haven't read it, read it. Then give it to someone else to read. Keep passing it on! It's definitely worth your time!

This might be the most I would ever talk about the format of a book in any of my reviews. This book was published in 1989 and the thing is, one can tell it was published in 1989. There were several instances while I was reading the book, that it occurred to me how much technological advances has passed the last 22 years in terms of word processors and publishing. In terms of content, the work was great, but the format can be improved for the sake of the readers in terms of each chapters falling under Part I (for example, say the Messianic prophecies themselves) or Part II (consideration of objections) of the book. Those who have read through the earlier editions of Josh McDowell's Evidence that Demand a Verdict (either volume one or two) will remember McDowell's interesting way of citing a source with a number that correspond to a list of works provided at the end of the book. For one who reads through the footnotes, it can get rather tedious flipping through the end back and forth. The list of source wasn't arrange alphabetically nor in terms of appearances in the book, and I was rather distracted with the thought of whether or not the order of the list were arbitrary! The book covered the clearer Messianic prophecies. The author does a good job bringing in quotations from commentaries making the argument. There were times in the book, I wish he could have gone more deeper, but I understand that this work was for a popular lay audience. I appreciated Ankerberg's references to what the early Jews understood about the text, in particular mentioning the Talmud and the Aramaic Targums from time to time. His references to the primary sources and where to find them in standard translations of these sources were gold. Overall, a recommend for those who are interested in Messianic prophecies as apologetics, and simple teases one to get into deeper exegesis of the Old Testament! The appendix by Walter Kaiser concerning his disagreement with Sensor Plenior and Isaiah 7:14 as Messianic prophecies was probably the most technical portion of the book. One also have to read what Kaiser has written elsewhere to get the fuller arguments and perspective (I love how this appendix went back to the traditional endnotes in terms of format). Kaiser's appendix dealt with things that I thought most readers from the general Christian reading audience would have a hard time tracking, concerning the dating of Jewish kings, and textual emendations. Otherwise, this work was great and I had a great time worshipping the Lord and being in awe of the Messiah as I read it and followed all the scriptural references in it's context.

Concise and easy to remember format; originally found this book at a garage sale and now that I've read it, wondered why those people would have let go of this little treasure. I want to get some more to share with newer believers.

If I were still teaching religion classes, the Lions of Judah books would be required reading. While each book could be read as a stand-alone, reading the series in order was a treat. I am easily annoyed with Kindle books that contain multiple spelling and formatting errors. This series is remarkably "clean"--I may have found 2 typos in four books. I appreciated the quality of the Kindle edition, as well as the engaging way these books are written. It touched my heart to realize the intricate plan of God in Joseph's life and trials and about the wonder of how His hand is personally involved in our lives. And the marvelous story of forgiveness. These books have made me have a whole new love and thirst to read the Old Testament and to see the spiritual revelations contained therein.

This series makes scripture pop. I have not been reading for many years but Gilbert Morris as well as Lynn Austin are one of the best writers ever. After reading these books and you read scripture the characters come to life.

Gilbert Morris seems like a bit of a nut to me. That or his Bible is very very different that any I have read.

All the books are good. Hard to put down. Looking forward to the last 2 books. You have to take the stories for what they are worth. When you read them, you will know what I mean.

This entire series of books by Gilbert Morris is absolutely outstanding. Some of the books include fictional figures, but they fit into the narrative nicely. Altogether a terrific read. If you like biblical accounts you will really enjoy these books.

Gilbert Morris has created yet another great masterpiece! Those familiar Bible characters are enriched by his magical retelling of their story in God's timeline of history. Thank you for making my Bible come alive!
