First of all, let me just say that the CD-rom, which includes some of Heather's most popular patterns, is worth the price of this book alone (and then some).If that's not enough, there are also NUMEROUS tear-out pages of her prints that you can use to get started crafting right away.Next, there is a great tutorial on how to make your own prints using Adobe Photoshop, as Heather generously shares her techniques.Finally, the cornerstone of this book is the long list of inspired projects. I found the paper-based projects to be my favorite, and I can't wait to get started making journals, stationary, notepads, and sketchbooks. The wrapping paper is nice but I am going to take it a step further and print the patterns on heavier cardstock to make fold-together boxes, or use it on printer paper to cover a pre-made box. I also wish there were a template for postcards, which I think would be super cute.The sewing patterns seem oddly out of place, and I don't think the swim cover-up, apron, chemise or napkins really add anything to the book. You can find these patterns anywhere. The dishtowels work though because Heather sets them up for you to print out a coordinating set of four with monograms- all you have to do is hem- that are perfect for gift-giving! I have to confess though I wouldn't have minded a pattern for the cute skirt she wears in the Introduction.The book also includes a bamboo tray, wallpaper (lots of possibilities for this when you find out how easy it is to make your own peel-and-stick contact paper), toddler cover and duvet (for boys, but you can make one for girls- Princess and the Pea, perhaps?), rice paper lanterns, shower curtain, childrens' stool, house of cards, votive holders, wall hanging and vinyl-wrapped tablecloth. From some of her earlier blog posts, I thought Heather might include instructions for a belt buckle and t-shirt, but you won't find those here- maybe in the next book?I literally cannot wait to get started on the book's ideas and the ones that are swimming around in my head. The stationary templates are something I will probably use again and again. Can I use her prints to make mugs? Calendars? I don't know yet but I can't wait to try.This is the most generous book I have ever seen published. I am only giving it 5 stars because a rating for 100 stars is not available.

I am a huge fan of Heather Ross, and bought the book sight unseen. It's like being "blinded by the designer label" for fabric geeks. But it does not disappoint! After ripping open the package, I'll admit I was a little bummed that it wasn't a thick, heavy books stuffed with a pocket for patterns and tons and tons of pages. Upon further inspection, it's relatively thin because everything I expected is in the back on a DVD (phew!).Did I say everything? Yes, everything. (Well, almost. I did not see the Mendocino seahorses available as a .jpg.) The 50+ designs alluded to in the title are 32 .jpg and .pdf images of her previously published and out of print designs, free for you to use. There's a graphic index in the back for you to check and see what you're getting in case you're some kind of freak who would only purchase it for that one fabric and not like the rest. You can upload the images at Spoonflower and have the fabric all over again, or print them professionally as wallpaper, even make stationery out of them. She gives directions on how to do all of these in the projects section of the book. still can't get over how generous (and unprecedented?) this is. Her beloved and out of print fabrics have been going for $20 a fat quarter on Etsy... but no longer. (Now I can stop side-eyeing those gorgeous mermaids in Jacquie Gering and Katie Pederson's Supernova Quilt for being out of print and out of reach.)As for the projects, they are not anything novel. Tea towels, votive holders, nightgown, Mod Podge projects-nothing groundbreaking here. But that's not the point. The point of the projects in the book is to showcase beautiful ways to use her images. It's not called how to sew or make stuff, it's called Heather Ross PRINTS. Here they are, and here's a way to plaster your stuff with them. She's not trying to teach sewing (although there are the perfunctory sewing basics lesson pages, which I suspect the publishers feel obligated to include and nobody in their right mind would use not knowing how to sew in the first place). With that in mind, the projects are all great ideas in terms of beauty, utility, and the right combination of ease and difficulty (nothing intimidating!) Some of the projects you will not be able to create right away. You'll need to pay to create her fabric if you don't have it, or you'll need to purchase the fabric as wallpaper, etc. But most you can - she printed the last dozen or so pages of the book with tear-out sheets of the prints that you can use for, as she suggests, wrapping paper (as if we would waste it on that!) or a decoupage project.If prints and projects aren't enough, Heather gives a brief tutorial on how to use Photoshop to pencil in and repeat your own designs and talks a bit about what it's like for her as an artist.Verdict: Buy it if you're a fan of Heather Ross!

Not only does this book contain very highly prized images made available in formats and with permissions that allow for uploading and printing onto multiple substrates, the beautifully presented materials are really inspiring and I am already thinking of ways of designing my own patterns and projects drawing on these materials. The book is a paperback but that is a little misleading -- it's actually a very thick, luxurious cardstock and a large, magazine-sized book. It's more like a heavyweight cousin of a fine art/culture magazine like Cabinet than it is like a regular paperback book. Gorgeous stuff, wonderfully presented, unbeatable price.

I'm so thrilled with this book!I've always been fascinated by creative people, how they make something from scratch with their own two hands. I always thought it's in the genes, and maybe it is...but with this book, it gives me hope that with a little inspiration, perhaps I can create something cool and awesome too!The best part: there are so many projects that seem doable and practical...and the addition of the DVD of Ms. Ross' designs and even cut outs of select patterns....wow, this book is a real steal!So I thank whatever lucky star has made me see and purchase Prints...i can't wait to start!

This is my first ever Amazon review, but I couldn't stand not writing one for this book! I am a voracious fantasy reader, and will read almost ANYTHING involving magic, other worlds, and political intrigue. I am also a member of the LGBT community, and it is very, very hard to find decent fantasy books with LGBT characters to relate to. This book was everything that I have been searching for for 21 years! The story pulls you right in. I started it at 10 pm and finished it at 2 am. I couldn't bring myself to put it down. I sincerely hope to see more from this author.

So, the book just came out today, I thought to read the first chapter or three. Eight hours later I finished my 'quick preview'.The book was a little slow starting but meticulously researched and with characters that grew on you.The mystery reveal was barely telegraphed, but looking back was quite apparent.Nicely done.No little flowers of princesses here. We are led to slowly meet and learn the major characters, and by the end, they are dear friends of ours, and I am saddened to see them go.400 pages, devoured cover to cover, and wouldn't be upset to see more.Thank you.

Of Fire and Stars was a very interesting book to read. Our heroines Denna and Mare split the Pov's throughout the book and are very distinct characters. Denna is a Princess who is forced to marry Mare's brother in order for their lands to form an alliance. It's a very strenuous alliance, due to the fact that many in Mare's land oppose the union with Denna. It sounds like your typical book of war, love, and betrayal. What sets this book apart are the heroines themselves. They wind up falling in love--- with each other. I never take gay characters for granted, because I personally identify as gay, and I love to see how the gay perspective is transformed through story telling. I value reading about the struggle of my people and how they can become triumphant. It gives me hope.I will say that the first third of the book was very slow. I'll also admit that I didn't love Denna at first. She seemed very frivolous and completely at the mercy of her emotions. Overtime she grew on me. I think that's in part by her love for Mare. I fell in love with Denna through the eyes of Mare. Mare showed me the qualities I was overseeing in Denna. It was invigorating to have a character's pov change my perspective on another character. I've never had that happen before. The action in the book wasn't in abundance, another small gripe that I had. I often felt like the love between the two women was too much at the forefront, even if it felt more like a timid cat & mouse game for most of the book.On the romance alone and the themes it's promoting, I'm happily looking forward to a sequel. If you love passionate characters, gay lovers, and war & betrayal, you will love this book

In this tale, a smart, nerdy, somewhat introverted princess married off to a foreign prince finds herself falling for the tomboyish, somewhat rebellious sister of her betrothed. There is action, intrigue, and adventure, with a lot of the subplots you'd expect from a fairy tale about nobles in a pseudo-medieval world, but with the subversion of a lot of tropes, too. The story also explores how one defines one's culture, religion, duty, and sense of self, which was interesting and thought-provoking.There is relatively little problem with any character being interested in a member of the same-sex (with perhaps one exception), but instead there is a lot of discrimination against people born with magic skills. With the issues faced by magic users in the story, the author successfully weaves a parallel to the discrimination many LGBTQIA+ people face in the real world, past and present, but without being too "in your face" about it.I really enjoyed the development of the two main characters, as individuals and as a couple. I also want to applaud the author for crafting a beautiful platonic friendship between one of the leading ladies and an ex-boyfriend, which is something you don't see very often in these kinds of books.

I had never heard of C. Peter Wagner prior to reading this book. I quickly learned that this book is filled with the 'meat' of the word of God. I found myself going back to the word of God over and over to make sure his claims were in line with the Bible. I have no doubt this book will cause discussion and even controversy..... any time the topic of wealth and God are brought up in the same breath you can bet that Satan is standing by ready to create doubt, fear, and confusion. God's word provides the answers about wealth that we might have, we just have to seek it out, and ask Him to give us the ears to hear His truth.As I read the book I really felt like it was a divine connection that this book came into my life when it did. I am grateful for the wisdom that was imparted in this book on the subject of wealth. It realigned and sharpened my focus for God's ways in my finances. It was a joy to read. When I was done with it, I felt empowered and more prepared for God to do a great and mighty work in my financial life. Nice job Dr. Wagner!

I would have given this book 5 stars if not for Ch. 10 and Wagner's erroneous belief that "The tithe is the first and most important step toward generous giving". The New Testament and the dispensation of grace contain no such statement supporting this belief. New testament believers with the Holy Spirit operating within them are as the apostle Paul tells us in Galatians 5:18 "But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law" This leads me to question the credibility of other statements made throughout the book. However, the other chapters confirm much of what has already been revealed to me and my colleagues regarding the great wealth transfer. This book enables those of us who have an ear to hear to prepare for the coming changes to the church that are required in order for this transfer to occur and to be a part of the manifestation. I recommend reading this book and checking the scripture for oneself to hear directly from the Holy Spirit as to the correct scriptural interpretation of various passages.

I enjoyed reading this book because it clearly explains the "wealth transfer" concept that I was not familiar with. The author shares different stories of successful people and how God blessed them financially so they could help fund ministries in the United States and around the world.A must-read if you are curious as to how and why God blesses us with a profitable business or with an influential job.

Really good book. Its about how to manage your wealth now . And first fruits and alms . How to responsibly give , and it shall be given unto you: good measure, pressed down, and shaken together , and running over . If were not faithful with a lttle we wont be faithful with a lot. Good teaching

Be ready to be a Joseph so that God and trust you as a vessel to bring wealth to the Kingdom of light.

Great book on giving and becoming an apostolic wealth distribution center. God is looking for those He can trust with Kingdom riches.

This whole series of books is just wonderful. Pick a topic that your child is or might be inteterested in and these books draw them right in. My son has been reading them since second grade (end of third now) and he still anxiously awaits them as I buy new. They are by far his favorite series and in my opinion so much better than the other silly/gross/obnoxious series out there.

Got this book for our grandson. He loves it. He is in the 4th grade and enjoys reading about history.

I got this for my son to have for a 5th grade project on pearl harbor, the topic was his choice. It was a little below his reading level, but that just made it easier and faster for the info to sink in, also used it as a visual aid in the presentation, his teacher was very impressed and hinted that she was going to order some for this and future classes.

Trying to mix in a little history and other non-fiction into my daughter's library. She said she really enjoyed this book.

If you would like to practice network analysis by dynamical way, but not stagnate with statics, then this is the book for you. Alternatively, I leant a lot by following Harry Crane’s twitter feed. Highly recommend for anybody who prefer complex data analysis over classical statistics.

This is a fun book I recommend for any reader interested in learning about statistical tools for networks. Crane has an entertaining writing style that makes this one of the more enjoyable books you will find in statistics or probability.

What an historic vast sea of knowledge of all the sources, from where my people, my life, and my future, stem from.As a Hasidic reader, i cannot even grasp a droplet of this tremendous study compiled of such world renowned 8 Jewish eminent scholars, all with a lifetime of books of their own, on these fields, before they grouped together, to toil and labor on this huge volume, that took over a decade to complete!Only a fool can compact the writings, of close to 900 pages, in one article. I only write this review because I want others also to buy it, and benefit form it, like myself.I read Shulem Auslender's very entertaining great critic, that it should have condemned the hasidim overall on their crackpot life. This book has plenty of 'crackpot' details about hasidim, but it also contains many smart modern things about us. What the authors clearly make the case, is, that hasidim are lying when they say, that they are all about fighting modernity. I am sure all 8 authors agree with Auslender, that overall hasidim are indeed primitive, and not modern at all.The readers should not be mislead to think that this book is something it's not; It is simply an history documentation. Not a psychoanalysis judgment call. It lays out the bare facts, the intricate thoughts & long process of evolution spanning 4 centuries, of this subject 'Hasidism', for us the readership, to make the decision on the hasidim & hasidic thoughts, on our own.Buy it & read it, - at-least some of it. Because it takes a very long time to read all of it. But I promise, you will reread it many times throughout your lifetime.

The book draws together so many luminaries that it serves as a kind of state of the field of Anglophone study of Hasidism. Obviously this is not Torah Min Hashamayim and some of the regnant theories expressed in the book will not hold up to future scrutiny but this is where we are at in 2018. Other fields should produce similar massive synthetic books like this to help them see where they are and where they're going. Book is a must-own for any Jewish library

The page numbers for the Kindle do not match up with the actual book. The problem comes from the fact that the Kindle puts the notes at the end of each chapter instead of the bottom of the page. I came to notice this because I have been meeting regularly with a friend to study the book and he had a physical copy so I had trouble figuring out where he was up to. This is the kind of book that is worth studying with a friend and presents the kind of challenge that may make it necessary.

Thorough and comprehensive. provides new insights into a little known religious sect. At times too much for a lay reader, but certainly worth the trouble if you are interested in the subject. The multiple authors provide a breadth of information that woulsd be hard to find in a single source.

Just received this volume but have perused and dipped into it. I have a longstanding interest in Hasidism and quite a library of related books. This volume,of more than 800 pages, is a tremendous addition to the field. I had expected different chapters from each of the several authors but it is truly a collaborative effort and a seamless multi authored effort with, presumably, contributions to most or all chapters by each author.I am enormously excited by this volume and looking forward to delving into it in detail. Many thanks for a wonderful and fascinating study.

The volume does not call the doubter into the intensity of prayer and practice of Hasidism life, study and devotion. However, recognizing that the purpose of the volume is to provide a thorough and even-handed history of the movement, it serves and will serve many purposes and — over and above — it provides a vigorous account of the movement that will inform the reader well. I'm a big fan of Neil Gaiman; enjoyed many of his books but there was just something about this one that never captured me. Maybe it's because the story felt so similar to other stories by Gaiman. Maybe it's because the main protagonist was a typical Arthur Dent. Dent being the British everyman with the bland name swept up in a strange world over which he has no control. Arthur Dent was enjoyable in his blandness but Richard Mayhew's most noticeable quality is his stupidity. He's the kind of fellow who'll tell a fire breathing dragon to his face that he has bad breath but not because he's brave; because he's just obliviously dumb.Richard Mayhew was just trying to live his normal, ordinary life in London when he came across a badly injured young lady while walking his girlfriend to dinner. Faced with the choice of helping the girl and losing his girlfriend or ignoring her pleas he opts to assist. As a reader of Gaiman might expect the injured girl is far more than she initially appears. She leaves the next day as it's clear she is being pursued and doesn't want to put Richard in harms way but the damage is done. Involving Richard now causes him to fade from existence. Oh, he's still there but only when Richard forcefully addresses someone can he even get them to notice him and a moments distraction will cause people to forget he's there. Richard now only truly exists in "London Below", a strange fantasy type world that overlays his own more mundane London.A thousands years ago Douglas Adams demonstrated that an extremely popular book could be written merely by stringing together a series of clever ideas but what CAN be done and what SHOULD be done are too different things. I've seen multiple British writers appear to try and emulate Douglas Adams without his success. Even Douglas Adams failed to recapture his earlier magic as his writing career progressed. You have to be REALLY clever to overcome a lack of story and still produce an engaging book and in this case Gaiman isn't clever enough. To those who defend the book as having a story I would argue that what it has is a vehicle for moving from one scene to the next. Not a story.The further into the book I read the more it failed for me. The "jokes" were predictable and bland, the characters were forgettable and the writing was way below what I expect from Gaiman. At one point the psychopathic killers Mr. Croupe and Mr. Vandemar have Richard trapped and decide not the kill him because they don't have time. This despite the fact that they absolutely did have time, reveled in killing and would have removed their last potential thorn. This is the kind of lazy writing I expect from a bad action movie not a Neil Gaiman novel.For me `Neverwhere' is to Neil Gaiman what `So Long and Thanks for All the Fish' was to Douglas Adams, a major misfire where you can't believe the author is the same one you've loved in the past. The final nail in the coffin was the "It's a Wonderful Life" perfect Hollywood ending. Read Anansi Boys or The Graveyard Book or American Gods because they're far superior. At least it appears that Gaiman is improving since this was one of his earlier efforts.

This book is like a work of art. I'd say about 70% of all the pages in the book are covered in sketches pertaining to the book content. I've attached photos of just the prologue and first 3 pages of chapter 1 so you can get a sense of how the pages look. It's beautiful.

This is my favorite Neil Gaiman book, followed by Ocean at the End of the Lane and Stardust. This book is the canonical example of Gaiman's take on magical realism, with slightly more overt magic than Ocean and slightly less than Stardust. As an American, I'm not sure I entirely appreciated the unabridged version, though I'm glad to have it for the sake of completeness. The story never feels like it drags, though I will admit that successive reads have never been as good as the first. The characters are sufficiently complex, though consistent; watching Richard Mayhew's development from beginning to end is absolutely compelling. Even more commendable is that they are all so believable, even in their extreme idiosyncrasy and surrealism. This is the best introduction to Gaiman that I could recommend. If you want more like it, read Ocean or Stardust; don't hope for a sequel―leave well enough alone.

“Neverwhere” is an urban fantasy novel by author Neil Gaiman. In it, we meet Richard Mayhew. He is a typical Londoner. He has a job, an apartment, a fiancée’, and a pretty normal life. One day while on his way to a dinner meeting, Richard finds a young woman bleeding on the sidewalk. He stops to help her and in doing so, is sucked into a world he never knew existed. Underneath the streets he walked everyday exists London Below – a place in some ways similar to the London he’s always known, but also completely different. This London is much darker. This London is not safe. This London has angels and monsters, hidden markets, and contract killers. And Richard is trapped there. If he has any hope of finding his way back to reality he must help his new friend Door find a key and bring it back to the angel at the center of the maze – all while avoiding being murdered by the pair of killers hunting them, or the beast in the labyrinth, or the potential traitor they were warned about.I’ve read what would be categorized as urban fantasy before but I don’t know that I’ve ever read a book quite like this one. The book is an unusual mix of fantasy, adventure, and maybe a little odd humor and magic. It’s not my favorite story ever, but I’m not sorry I read it by any means. Gaiman is a talented writer to be sure.What I enjoyed about the book was that Gaiman successfully uses his story to remind us that things are not always what they seem and that there are people, all around us every day, who are hurting and “falling through the cracks”. I thought Gaiman did a great job of highlighting those realities without preaching about it. I also enjoyed that Richard was never painted as some hero that just needed an opportunity to prove himself. Instead, Richard is a claustrophobic, afraid of heights, sucker of a man who manages to help save the day only by accident and only after being beaten, broken, seduced and fooled repeatedly.What I didn’t love about the book is that I found Gaiman’s style a little unusual and his writing a little too flowery for my taste (using too many words, or words no one would actually ever use in real conversation, to tell his story). I also thought that the book was largely predictable – not in the overall story – but there are three main “twists” in the story and I (and I’m sure most other people) saw them coming long before we got there in the book.Overall, I enjoyed the book. I didn’t think it was perfect, but it was good enough that I’d definitely read Gaiman again.
