It is a good book with plenty of reading assignments (bout 65 pages) to include practice of synonyms/antonyms and fill in the blanks, but I'd say all this is more for a 2nd, or even 1st, grader not 3rd. stories are way too short and too easy, so answering questions is a breeze for a 3rd grader as it isn't much info he/she have to remember or process. Because it's so short you can actually just read questions first and then find answers. I though that it would get gradually harder, but it doesn't.

As a homeschooling parent who must have been sick on the days we had grammar in school, I really appreciate this book. Fun activities and sentences. My 8 year old is really liking this book. He hasn't given me any pushback on doing pages from it. Some of the sentences aren't the most creative, but in third grade what do you expect.

Nice writing book, butwoul d like a writing book with styles of writing...e.g. a book report, a cause and effect, a compare and contrast, etc.

Recieved the 5 th grade reading comp. book today. When UPS handed me the package the book was shipped in, I thought it was empty. The book it EXTREMELY thin, 45 pages total. about 23 reading pages and 22 work pages. I will use this book up quick. There's no way this book would last the summer. Should have went with my first choice which was Spectrum. I have 3 other books from Spectrum and I am pretty happy with those. I am really disapointed with this purchase. Will not buy this brand again. If your looking for a book to last you all summer, this one is not it.

Good for a student who needs a little more practice, but as a private tutor I was disappointed in the lack of variety of topics and the over use of multiple choice questions.

I bought Spectrum Vocabulary and Scholastic Success with Multiplication and Division, Grammar and Reading Comprehension workbooks for my (soon to be) third grade son. I wanted to help him be prepared for the next school year and these were a great purchase. They are full of different types of activities that students will enjoy. It also helps me to understand the type of material to expect for the next grade and what to help him with when it comes time for standardized testing. Worth the purchase and quick shipping as well.

I'm an educational therapist. I love the Scholastic series of workbooks in all subject categories for my students. This particular book is great practice for standardized tests - but it also helps a student gain confidence - something often missing with students who don't think they can test well. Practice helps.

My step-daughter was having some issues staying focused in school with reading and comprehension, so I saw this and thought it might be a fun way to peak her interest and get her grades up. She hated it at first, and complained EVERY time we had her do a couple of pages after school, but now if I tell her to do her pages, she willingly does them and understand what she's doing. It's an awesome little book, and it explains things extremely well. The last several times I've told her to do her pages, she's done it by herself and I checked her work and it was perfect. Even her penmanship has improved with the practice. I'll be ordering more for 3rd grade!

I bought my first issue of Lathrop's book "Who's Hiring Who?" back in 1983. I've purchased numerous copies over the years for friends and colleagues. In `83 I followed the advice and achieved my goal by landing a job that put my self perceived talents to the test. I landed a job in a Fortune 500 industry that was spending large sums on staff training and development which further enhanced my career.My wife and I are considering career changes after 16 years of self employment so I just bought the 12th edition and will again put Lathrops's magic to the test.The publisher, Ten Speed Press, has many other helpful titles in their catalog for job seekers and the life changing adventurers; most notably "What Color is Your Parachute?" by Nelson Bolles.

I've had copies of this little volume for years and although its content shows its age it's still a very useful approach to writing resumes... er... "Qualifications Briefs!"There is a sample QB that is particularly useful for people who have been stay-at-home parents for sometime and have been out of the workforce for awhile. Good stuff!

Some years ago I wrote my resume along the lines suggested by Richard Lathrop.As a result I was invited to interview for a position in Presque Isle, Maine where I drove to, in a blinding blizzard,from Bangor, Maine. Once I was seated at the interview I was immediately informed "You are not qualified for theposition; - however, your resume was so interesting we just wanted to talk to you. (Thanks a lot!)The issue is not whether I got the job or not. The point to bear in mind is that people wanted to talk to me evenin the knowledge I wasn't qualified for the position being offered. That same resume in the hands of those offeringpositions for which I was qualified for aroused similar levels of interest and I was not unemployed for very long.

Seven years ago I was working at a library when a patron returned this book. The title caught my eye, and since I was ready to update my resume I checked it out.My resume was 2 pages going on 3. One of my goals was to reduce the size. Also, I was looking for a job in a field where I had no employment history and was not "qualified" from an educational viewpoint either. But I knew I had something to offer if I could get potential employers to look beyond my "employment history" and "education" and see my potential (and give me an interview).Shortly after that I saw an ad for a job I really wanted and wrote up a one-page qualifications statement tailored to the job I wanted. I got the job and 7 years later I am still working with the same company, and I'm still greatful to the author of this book.The approach presented in this book is useful and worth knowing about. I liked the book because it made sense, and introduced a method of presenting oneself I had never seen or heard of before, despite having read several books.There are some really good examples. The one that struck me most was for a highly qualified homemaker with lots of experience, but no previous employment history. Anyone can learn from her experience.If you are looking at changing careers, or beginning one, buy this book. I am glad it is still in print as the concepts covered are just as useful now as they were to me 7 years ago.

I bought this book from the local book store in 1982. Since then I have never written a resume, I have always used a qual brief, and it has helped me as I progressed through my career over the last 30+ years.. Among other things, a qual brief is a lot more interesting to read than a dry list of keywords. I've be on both sides of the interview and QB is always better than a resume.

Thank you Dustan and Amazon for making this book available. I'm six months into being a license Broker (cap) in BC and though I wish this was out before I started in the business, I have still profited. For me the greatest gift from the book are: Dustan's attitude toward work, attitude toward brokering and his great love of learning. I too had too had to learn to learn when studying for the exam (I used among a many things "The Little Book of Talent by Daniel Coyle - Amazon and Mental Case The Study app for Mac) . I too had no financial industry background (I was told that was a good thing as I would not have to UNLEARN bad habits). I'm 23% through the Kindle version and have already ordered six books he's suggested in Be The Better Broker. Very, very good book Dustan and very good advice. I really look forward to all of the books to follow. I know that all of us who take this job seriously will profit in so many ways.

Just got my license last month and will be leaving a safe and lucrative career for my life long passion - the mortgage industry! This book is amazing and is very easy to read. Full of knowledge and real life experiences that will surely boost your chances of success in this space. I have already purchased volume 2 and can't hardly wait to read it! I have had a great time reading this book. It raised questions that had never been raised to me before or at least, not articulated in the way they are.I used to think philosophy-theology conversations weren't something I could be well-versed in, but this book makes it approachable and entertaining in its humor and logic which gives me lots of hope in being able to delve more into arguments of faith and reason.

Excellent book for a variety of reasons. I highly recommend to share this title with both your theist and atheist friends. Both sides, at a minumum, will learn new insights and perspectives about this whole messy debate that I think will raise the standard for everyone.With much more clarity and substance, Fr. Andrew Younan directly challenges and faces the New Atheism movement in a way that has never been done before. He addresses all the major New Atheism leaders and authors directly, honestly, and fairly. While other authors do this on some level, there is not one other title that addresses New Atheism as extensive as this book. This is evidenced by the sheer number of them he quotes and references (~20). He illustrates his expertise on the question of God and philosophy by his clear thinking on the subject, but also shows an immense amount of knowledge on the opposing posisitons and how these atheists get to their conclusions.Additionally, this is the only book today that specifically addresses atheist authors Krauss and Dennett. No one else has dealt with them before, at least as in-depth. Both Krauss and Dennett are growing in popularity pretty fast so this book couldn't come any sooner.Fr. Andrew's approach is fair to the question of God by not automatically concluding for the reader, but rather letting the reader see evidence/reasoning on both sides in order to reach a conclusion organically.It's very refreshing to see someone finally address the very weak (and sometimes embarrassing) theist arguments. In a charitable yet humerous way, he reveals his frustration with the false dichatomy between "Science or God" and how a good majority of theists in America are not helping their case.All the while, his writing style is extremely enjoyable and humerous while maintaining a sense of respect on both sides. I highly recommend this book.

If you're looking for a shortcut way to argue with atheists or anti-theists, this is not your book. If you're looking for a clever "clap-back" that can fit in 140 characters, this is not your book. If you're an atheist or anti-theist looking for ridiculous claims to mock, this is not your book. If you're looking for a book that takes very difficult concepts and makes them easier to understand (but doesn't water them down with bad analogies or different meanings altogether), then this is your book, and whether or not you're a theist or atheist shouldn't matter in that case.This is easily the best response to the New Atheism movement I have seen. It is thorough, clear, fair, and, unlike so much of what we see in society's "dialogue," sane. It calls out bad thought both in the New Atheist movement, but also in much of the "religious" response to that movement. It removes emotion and rhetoric, and addresses the question at hand (does God exist) as purely as possible. It demonstrates how despite being knowledgeable in matters of science, so many of the New Atheists are simply not good at philosophy, some going as far as discounting philosophy as being entirely unimportant (despite trading in it, perhaps unwittingly).The arguments presented in the book are excellent, however they may not be the best part of the book. I would argue the best feature of the book is presenting good techniques for thinking, and attempting to arrive at truth which should be the purpose of any and all thought.I recommend this book to anyone interested in answering the question of God's existence, regardless or religion (or irreligion for that matter).

This book should be a must read not only for any student in philosophy 101, but really anyone that wants to have a book that turns on their brain. It uses the power of reason to discredit the new atheists such as Dawkins (I have read and enjoyed many of Dawkins' books, including the God Delusion) . You will not find rebuttals with a poor understanding of science here or quotes to the Bible. It is all pure solid reasoning. Fr. Younan writing is very clear and reachable even though, be warned, you will need to stop many times to re-read and engage your nogging. I had read Mr. Dawkins take down of first proof of Aquinas first, so I was floored when I re-read it here to find how badly I had understood it, not to mention Mr. Dawkins.No matter where you are in your belief of God (yes, no, or undecided), this is a must read. It has changed some opinions I had. Even if it does not do that for you, your brain will come out stronger with the exercise.Edit: I want to correct myself about Bible quotes. There is a quote of Genesis in the chapter dedicated to Evolution. Fr Younan is, of course, a catholic priest at will defend evolution and clarify how Genesis should be interpreted. Once again Thomas Aquinas is brought in with a prescient quote that God created Matter with the power to develop life (I am overly simplifying here). Aquinas intuition was bowing down to Darwin across the gulf of hundreds of years. I had goosebumps reading Aquinas' quote, for which you need Fr. Younan interpreting the very old way of writing. My respect for Aquinas has grown greatly. The man had a great mind. And thanks to Fr. Younan for bringing these topics with great clarity.Get the book it is a delicious mind treat.

i thought i ordered a paper copy of this book for $3.99 since it appeared that the kindle version was free. there is no where on the website to cancel this order. I found this to be very misleading.

This is an incredibly informative collection of books on the subject of cannabis growing. Doing so at home is tough, but this set of books explains each step in depth and in an easy to follow way. All the books are also jam-packed with tips and hints on how to do it successfully. I also really liked the fact that there are pictures in some of the books, which make the instructions so much easier to follow. And the chapters on growing cannabis outdoors are in themselves worth the price of this set. If you’re struggling with this task of growing your own non-commercial cannabis, get this book!

Average info but very good basic grow stuff.If you haven't read anything on growing yet it a very good book to start with.
